Edible Garden

Edible Garden Committee Chair: Alice Bumgarner, alice.b@earthlink.net or 680-8674

Sarah Vroom of Bountiful Backyards shows GW students how to plant a tree. This Asian persimmon tree will one day be the tallest plant in our fruit garden.

Ever wonder how classes are using the Edible Garden for hands-on learning? As more students come to the garden to do experiments and learn about science, math and literacy, the Edible Garden is evolving into a true “living classroom.” Get a behind-the-scenes look at http://www.youtube.com/abumgarner1.  In a few short videos, you’ll see Lower El teacher Ms. Vejvoda do a hands-on lesson with 3rd graders about how good soil can be lost when rain and wind cause erosion. And you’ll see how kids make the connection between having healthy soil and making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich!
