November Is Poetry Month

November 2009 is our second annual Poetry Month at George Watts.
Each morning, beginning November 2nd, a poem is read over the loudspeaker for the entire school community. During the first 2 weeks of the month, teachers, staff and parents will recite. During the third week, our students will share their favorite poems.

George Watts Wins State Fair Art Prize

Congratulations to Art Teacher Carol Barnes and students Kiran Baucom, Yessica Berrera Santos, Nicholas Martelon, Laura Salazar, John Saylor, and Elizabeth Wood.  They were awarded 1st Place in the 2009 North Carolina State Fair Art Competition!

In the month November, we will have a new offering at George Watts: an afterschool Spanish class for students!

Open to students currently enrolled in the afterschool care program at George Watts**

George Watts Receives Generous Gym Equipment Donation

Last week, the bouldering wall in the in the George Watts gymnasium was graced by new handholds from Three Ball Climbing of Phoenix, Arizona.

New Reading Curriculum in Durham Public Schools

There has been some discussion in the news recently about a new reading curriculum that will be implemented in Durham Public Schools this year.

Students in grades 1-5 attend full days, all week: Tue 8/25 – Fri 8/28, 9:00 am – 3:30 pm
