Arts & Culture
Arts and Culture Committee Chair: OPEN
Arts and culture play a large part in every child’s life and the Arts & Culture Committee supports and provides opportunities that enrich these aspects of your child’s school experience. Our goals are:
- To support and enrich the academic curriculum with Arts & Culture inspired events and activities
- To have two major events which highlight and showcase our school community’s unique diversity
- To highlight, showcase and collaborate with the Durham Arts community
- To offer our students multiple opportunities to visit museums
- To showcase and display our student’s art work in prominent locations in and out of the school building
- To offer enriching afterschool arts inspired programming
You may have heard of the Latin Dance program, the afterschool Art Club for 1st and 2nd graders and the Black Poetry Theatre group (who performed at Baldwin Auditorium as part of a month long Black History Month and Poetry curriculum focus). These are some of the great activities that have come from this committee- and just imagine what we can do with more time and valuable input from YOU! Please consider offering your ideas, time, support, and/or monetary donation to this wonderful committee.
We are currently seeking a Chair for the Arts and Culture Committee. If you are interested, please contact Sabrina Lamar, PTA President.
I have a vague recollection that there is a poetry week coming up soon, but I’m unable to locate the email. If you are still looking for parent volunteers to read poetry, I’d be interested in signing up.
